Origin: Eastern Australia & Tasmania
Platypuses are so rare that they are virtually unheard of in captivity outside Australia! Three platypuses were transferred to the Bronx Zoo (New York) in 1947, but the last time a platypus was seen in a zoo outside Australia was at the San Diego Zoo Safari in the United States in 2019.
