The Urania ripheus is one of the most striking diurnal moths in the world. This species is known for its spectacular, iridescent colours: a combination of bright green, pink, orange, yellow and black that changes hue depending on the light. The wings have a distinctive ‘staircase pattern’, and the tail-shaped tips are reminiscent of a swallowtail.
Despite its exotic appearance, this species belongs to the moths and is therefore not a butterfly, although at first glance it does not appear so. The colours are completely natural and not processed.
